Jerome's Take

Jerome Otchere

Journalist / Football Writer

Jerome Otchere is a passionate football journalist, whose love for the sport is traced to his school days in the Eastern Regional capital of Ghana, Koforidua, where he was nicknamed ‘Nkono’ – notably after Cameroonian goalkeeper, Thomas Nkono for his excellent goalkeeping skills.

Apart from football, Jerome Otchere’s other passion is writing. It is that which spurred him on to the journalism field after studying Mechanics at Koforidua SECTECH. He would later have his Bachelor of Arts Journalism studies at Jayee University College, Accra.

With stints at Eastern Journal and All Sports, it was at the official mouthpieces of Asante Kotoko SC (Kotoko Express and Asantekotokosc.om) where Jerome Otchere burst onto the Ghana football scene, first as a reporter and subsequently as Editor.

At the Kotoko media where he spent 12 years, he worked under some of Ghana’s finest sports journalists; the veteran Ken Bediako and Michael Oti Adjei who mentored him. From Kotoko Express and Asantekotokosc.com, Jerome Otchere worked with Dreams FC’s media outfit, FootballMadeInGhana.com also as Editor.

Jerome Otchere has covered several international football tournaments – namely the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South and the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations also held in South Africa as well as CAF inter club competitions involving Asante Kotoko between 2006 and 2015.

He’s a football pundit on various radio and television stations in Ghana’s capital, Accra. He’s a credible, authoritative voice on Ghana football with his independent-mindedness. Now a freelance journalist, Jerome Otchere lives in Accra with his wife, Josephine – a Pharmacist; and their two children.
